Need to be brief.
New taps for filter arrived, fitted, tightening slowly, can't stop them leaking and they are worse than before!! It's where the tap meets the hose into the tank, Both filters have been off for an hour now, how long will they be ok off for? |

That doesn't sound good. You really should get the filter running again as the fish are troubled when there's no filteration
Maybe you could try using duct tape to cover the leak or silicon? |

What make of filter is this? Sorry if I've missed something. I can't picture the offending section
Bacteria should be ok for a little while, you shouldn't get 100% die off just yet. Opinion on various threads I've seen on various forums seems to vary from 'everything will die immediately' to 'the bacteria was fine for a few hours' so I'd go for the middle ground and say it should be ok for a little while longer. If you can't get it going and have an airstone you could put the airstone in the bottom of the filter to keep the water flowing over the media, that should help ![]() EDIT - crossed with Cathie there ![]() |

From profile:
aqua one CF-1000 external filters ![]() I agree with the others, a few hours as they stand, probably more with an airstone as per Cathie's suggestion. EDIT; Am not familiar with this filter, but if it's going to be more than 12 hours or so before you can get replacement taps, can you connect the filter tubing directly to the inlets and outlets to allow you to run the filters while waiting? |

Phew, thanks everyone, I didn't take the water out the filters, but I did switch them on as soon as I seen one of the replies, spraybar shot me in the face hah!
Tank is still only half filled, managed to stop one of them leaking and the other is just a trickle so a towel is working for now. Half done the new plants, I say half because I haven't had a chance to look them up and have no idea what any of them are, so they are just in there for now. Kids back from nursery and made it impossible for me to carry on before they go to bed. |

Just had a thought (yeah, not like me at this horrid time of day).
It's unlikely to be the taps leaking, old and new, could it be te hose? Maybe it's too stretched or split at the end? I'm thinking of cutting an inch or so off it. |
