I found eggs in the fancy tank 3 days ago stuck to the hornwort. Given fishies are just 6 months old, assumed it was just an infantile try...Most sites indicate fancies reach sexual maturity 9-12 months in.

Tonight, the smaller gold fancy (Custard) is displaying breeding tubicles all down the outside pelvic fins and gill covers with an 'innie' vent, now quite visible. The much 'larger' metallic (Rhubarb - who has been vent shuffling on and off and chasing the other, for want of a better word) unable to see a vent given it's low fancy tail, is perhaps a female then? Can only assume though for now given eggs in plants!! I must have one of each? Do girls really harrass boys like this?

OH always assumed the bigger was the male as babies, but I said to wait and see Bestest of mates, they swim, eat and sleep side by side which is uber cute!

Shocking behaviour from such youngsters, I hope you've given them 'the talk'

Females will try to initiate spawning if they are full of eggs and wanting to get rid of them, they shuffle up alongside the males and sometimes nip at the vent. Ren used to try to get Howie interested but he was completely oblivious to her overtures Albie has been attempting to get it on with anything and everything since he was about 4 months old so certainly the impetus is there at a young age, not sure how the eggs would do from younger females though, they might do well but I've got no experience of it to say for sure

They were indeed given 'the talk' last night S

Eggs were (I assume eaten) given I spotted them at the house lights went out at bedtime, and were not there in the morning. Their relationship size wise makes me think of Hattie Jacques and Kenneth Williams!

Custard (now the male) has a bit of a deformed mouth as he's grown, given it doesn't open fully on one side. Doesn't stop him digging in though once the food goes in.
