I've just moved the filter around by 90 degrees, and the heater angled across the back of the tank with the outlet flow from the filter being blown over it. Cheers :) |

The heater goes inside the filter box on my old Juwel Rekord, does it not do that with others?

It looks really good! As Cathie said, there should be a space inside the filter unit for the heater to slide in, and this will ensure a constant flow of water around the heater and hide the heater out of sight :) Just make sure you remember to turn the heater off during water changes as it sits high up in the filter, and they break if exposed to the air.
I had a couple of fish manage to jump out of the water and fall through the small hole on the top of the filter, one Golden barb was in there for at least 18 hours! They and my white clouds especially liked to swim into the current made by the filter outlet, and then jump out of the water. I think the novelty's worn off now, haven't seen them do it for a while. But I've blocked up the holes with a bit of filter wool just in case! Have you thought about adding any live plants? They will give some cover to your fish and help keep the water clean :) |

Hey, the filter that came with the tank did indeed fit inside the filter housing, but after 72 hours it still hadn't managed to get the water temperature above 22 degrees. I bought a replacement one from my LFS and unfortunately it doesn't quite fit inside the filter housing. Once the tank is more mature, I plan to get an external filter and inline heater to give the tank a cleaner look. I will block up that hole, the emperor tetras are very lively, would hate for them to get trapped in there! I've ordered a selection of live plants to go in there to give the fish some more cover and bring some more colour to the tank :) |

Juwel always sell the slightly less powerful heaters for some reason
I upped mine from the 150w to a new 200w for the 180l and from a 100w to a 150w for the 120 Lido.Mine were struggling when fist set up to and given geberally most aim for 1w per litres then rounded up to the next size, Juwels stance on this is a bit odd. When buying replacements I measure the circumference of a heater that fit's inside with a bit of wire - nice modern technique there (or take an old one into the shop to compare). That way you buy replacements knowing they will fit inside so hidden from view. |

Ah, glad to know it's not just me who's been having problems with the Juwel heaters! I thought it was my fault for keeping my flat too cool!! I had to get another heater for my 240 Juwel tank because the one that came with it couldn't keep the temperature stable - luckily I came across a brand new Fluval 200w at a car boot sale for £10! So I've kept them both in the tank, one inside the filter housing and the new one one the glass at the opposite end of the tank. The temp is now completely stable, and I don't have to worry about my fish dying if one of the heaters stops working :)
