Bet you are. I remember chatting to Violet about when she had to euthanise her fish, so sad

Not a nice thing to have to do, but sometimes we have to do it to be kind

Take care Suzy xx

So sorry
It must have been awful. But at least you know they are not suffering now. The lengths you went to to try and save them, and the brave decision you had to make in the end are all testament to your love for your fish. They were lucky to have had you as a keeper.

Big hugs x

I'm so sorry for you dismal This is a horrid decision to have to make I know. We've had quite a number of recent posts relating to neons/cardinals with all sorts of lumps and blobs and I think Noodle mentioned whether there could be an issue with some of the breeders and the fish being imported.

Most people find the clove oil method very gentle. Best to add a litlle and let the fish go groggy, then add more gradually. If no gill function after some time has passed, the alcohol is the final stage. I'm sorry you found this distressing too, some fish can get jumpy I know with it.

Bigs hugs
V x

Thanks V, really appreciate your help with this and for your lovely words.

I've been doing a bit more research and apparently some people find it better to add the clove oil about half the speed of that suggested in the wisegeek guide, so it doesn't shock them.

Hopefully I won't have to do it again to test the theory though

It is strange how so many of us are having issues right now with similar fish... I hope it's just coincidence and not bad breeders! I certainly won't be getting neons again!

Thanks again Violet

Just catching up on threads I missed - sorry to hear your losses. Sounds like you did the best thing though and it certainly isn't a reflection on you as a keeper. As my OH said to me, "Chin up - you probably gave them a much better life than they'd have had in the wild as they wouldn't have had any medication or help from the suffering at the end. "

Here's to never having to use Clove oil again.

Thanks for you kind words Did yours not make it either? It's so frustrating when you can't help them, but your OH is right, we all do the best for our fish.

Definitely FX for no more clove oil, here's to that indeed

I only lost 3 with this outbreak (had to help 1 with Clove oil) (1 more currently infected) and I also lost Andre, my Male Apisto. I don't know what killed him for sure, but judging by how things are at the moment, I have a feeling it might have been the worm/parasite thing I'm dealing with.
