I had a thread on here a while back re fancy sitting on bottom of tank, and I think I have now figured out that this is due to a bit of overfeeding (whoops my bad)
I also mentioned that she had developed some strange white spots on her head that would disappear after 24hrs or so, well... I noticed one come up a few days ago, nice big bump it was as well, again went after 24hrs. had a few more come and go. Had one burst yesterday! No blood as such, just white furry stuff coming out of it. After an hour or two you could hardly tell she had had anything there..? Came home from work tonight and now she has two, both bursting with white furry stuff. Cannot get detail in pic I'm afraid flickr Water parameters are normal, was thinking about previous advice r.e. adding salt, but not sure quite how to do this, or whether this would still be the right course of action? Any advice would be really appreciated ![]() |

I think I'd be inclined to try a topical treatment directly onto the spots
Have you got any myxazin, acriflavine or betadine (povidone iodine)? You can apply all of these neat to the area as well as being able to use myxazin and acriflavine in the water as a treatment (don't use betadine in the water!). Salt would also be an option but mixing myxazin with salt isn't advisable as the ingredients react badly with salt. It's difficult to know what it is, could be a fungal thing in which case salt could help, or could be a cyst or similar in which case a topical application of myxazin, acriflavine or betadine could help. Personally I'd try a topical treatment first and see if that has any effect To catch her use two nets, one to catch and one to herd her into the catching net. Then use wet hands to hold her in the net, pop her head out of the water, dab some treatment on with a cotton bud (rub it in a bit, don't be afraid to be quite firm) and the release her back into the tank. She won't talk to you for a while but some food will soon bring her round ![]() Have you checked the water readings recently? |

Your fish is the absolute image of my fish
Mine gets these too as well, white bump, gets bigger, gone in a few hours! He is experiencing a lot of head growth at the moment, his bobbly oranda head is coming in nicely, so I assumed they were growth spots? |

Hey
Viricona - I have been told by many that they are growth spots, but I am sure they are not supposed to burst tho..? hence I am starting to suspect something else, have any of yours burst? Suey - That is going to prove a mission and a half, she hates being touched, let alone being held, and I am scared stiff of holding her in case of causing her any damage. Guess I am just going to have to practice this. Todays water readings - Api ammonia test 0.25, but nutrafin ammonia test shows 0, api Nitrite 0, Nitrate 40 and ph 7.8. Been having problems with algae and recently got a phosphate test - tap readings 0.5, tank reads 2.0. so gonna need to look at reducing these... Out to get some treatment, try that first and see what happens, and if no effect will maybe try some salt... will keep you posted fx |

There have been previous posts and pics here of wen growths giving a slight white stringy aftermath after the white blob fist appears (almost looking a bit worm like at times). Not sure if this is due to slime coat but all the fish survived.
I tried to go back and find other pics, but too many old posts to scroll through! Normal, I'm sure. |

I do hope they are normal violet, I would rather not use meds if I can help it, especially if not needed. In the absence of any decent pics from me I have tried to have a root around for other pics that look similar. This is exactly what they look like. fk
They started on the top of her head, and have now spread down the side of her face as well. If this sounds normal, and the fact that they burst, as you describe "giving a slight white stringy aftermath after the white blob fist appears (almost looking a bit worm like at times)" then I shall leave alone and keep a watchful eye. If they are normal, what are they? and why do they burst? Are they a bit like spots as on teenage kids? Sorry they just look so gross when they burst, it makes me a bit worried. |

My Rocket gets spots on her head, she has a slight headgrowth but what she gets are not growth spots and are not normal. I think she has a viral infection which manifests now and again. I've treated her with topical applications in the past when I was concerned she might get infected. Quantum, my ranchu, does get growth spots but I've never seen any of them 'burst', perhaps different fish present them slightly differently
I've also had fish who have developed cysts which have burst and it's not nice, a burst cyst definitely needs treating.I must admit I've never really researched them as I've never personally had problems with them, or doubt over whether or not mine have them The treatment and meds I mentioned are not harmful and won't hurt the fish if you do decide you want to do anything. You are not putting anything into the water after all, only using a topical application. Obviously none of us can see her and while pics help they can't be relied on 100%. If you compare her spots to pics of growth spots and are happy they are the same thing then just monitor her I guess. If you are not happy that they are the same thing post back, you're not wasting anyone's time ![]() |

Hi all, sorry for dragging this post back up, but I would like some opinions please if it's not too much trouble.
These white spots have come and gone, some have burst, but all have been rather small and have generally disappeared by themselves. This one came up tonight, extremely large and disgusting flikr flikr I think this really needs treating now, I have myxazin but am not sure if this is the right thing to use? Thing is I am not sure what it is I am treating..? I cannot get anything directly onto her skin, I have tried to get her to let me hold her but she panics and flaps around and ends up hiding in the bottom of the tank gasping for ages, she gets herself into such a state. I am scared stiff that I am going to end up hurting her. I know I can put myxazin into the water, but before I do, please can anyone suggest whether this is a good idea or not? or whether I should be looking into another form of treatment? Thank you all for your time |
