Hi
I have two questions that i need some help with. One is on algae and the other about my hammer coral. Firstly i have had high phosphates at about 0.8 ppm which i understand is quite high for marine aquariums. This has caused lots of algae every all over the glass sand and rocks. I decided to buy a phospahte reactor from cleartides and added some media.I out 250ml of rowaphos into the reactor about a 2 weeks ago. this is over what the leaflet said to reduce 3ppm of phsophate to zero but it has not made much of a difference. Is it full already? If so how often should i be changing it?. The test is acurate as i use dd high sensitivity kit and i only use RO water. My tank is a 30 gallon and i change 3 gallons of water every 2 weeks. What is wrong? Now for my hammer coral. I brought it last week and aclimatised it to my tank. I placed it on the rock work and it opened up and looked good.It was on there for a few days until one day i found it had been knocked of and sat next to it was my red hermit crab. On inspection some of the polyps had gone missing. I picked it up again a brought some super glue and this time stuck it to the rock. I never saw the hermit by it again but all of the polyps have now gone with just the skeleton left. What happened. Would the hermit eat this coral. I never saw it eating it just by it? What whent wrong Thanks Leiws |

What Lights do you use? How long are they on for? Have you changed your prefilters recently on your RO Unit? Does your LFS use tap water rather then RO in their tanks (When purchasing Fish/Inverts)
Interms of your Hammer, As far as I'm aware your Hermit shouldn't touch the Hammer, unless their is algae growing on it. Unless the Hermit is a large calcinis I wouldn't expect him to of pushed it over. Do you have any large fish, Wrasse? How long have you left it since it fell over and damaged the flesh? Scott |
