Mike,

I think you are advised to replace the Skimmer Block every 4 weeks - you'll notice the skimmer pump starts to get noisy when it is on it's way out.

hi mike
have you got this system to
great advice. i noticed only today that my pump was rather noisy. i also cleaned the whole skimmer chamber and collection cup as it was covered in green scum from a previous medication. since doing that 4 hours ago i have my first waste in the cup. only about a teaspoon full, but its a start.i will order some new wooden airstones asap.
should the surface of the tank water be clear as mine has a film on it. maybe protein ehh??

Chops,

Skin on the water sounds like protein. Have you got a powerhead facing up at the surface to help break it up? I understand that it makes it easier for the overflow to digest it.

i have a koralia 1 pointing at the surface and a seio 820 pointing accross the full width of the tank and also the overflow outlet is pointing to the front of the tanks glass. will the film/skin on the surface affect the fish and will it go away, it looks awfull.noticed also gets worse when i feed the flake food.

Hi Chops

I have same problem with surface film. I add a hose to the venturi on my power head when it gets bad. 1/2 hour of crazy bubbles seems to sort it. I don't like it to build up too much as I am sure it will affect the gas exchange. If its major have resorted to using a kitchen towel.

has anyone had problems with there marysis filter filling back up once it has been knocked off( for water changes and filter feeding corals)
it took me over 2 hours to get the filter box to run again. it just would not pull water back into the marysis box, and then when it did, it was very slow. the tank almost overflowed several times so i had to siphone water from tank direct back into marysis. the overflow pump seems to be working fine, but i do notice it expells alot of bubbles when i restart it
any help much appreciated
thanks

hi terry
how old is your system. i had the same bubbles when mine was new (1-2 months). they have now gone after 4 months. i have also fixed the filter. it was the priming pump. it had clogged up with algae and now runs great.skimmer still producing nothing, so i have ordered 2 new wooden air stones to see if that does anything. apart from this. everything is A1
