Here is a photo of one made so you know what i mean. part go into the hole with water, the other in the open with the tap valve and slowly close the valve until you hear no noise.

It does'nt connect to anything, only because the gurgling noise from the overflow box where the water enter the pipe to the sump or whatever on your tank. Just put part of the airline tube inside the pipe the water drain into and the rest outside with the tap-valve. And slowly turn the tap as if closing it until you reach a point where the noise has gone. There will be a tiny hole or opening inside the valve, not totally closed as it give equal air mixed into the water so the noise is quiet. The tube outside once done will have to be attach somewhere on the tank so it does'nt disappear.HTH

My set up is 2 1/2 months & I only get about a teaspoon full every cpl days if I lucky. I have 5 fish, 1 starfish, 6 turbo snails & 2 hermits, 2 cleaner shrimp & 1 peppermint shrimp.
My test results are fine, so not too worried at the mo |

Chops,
How are you finding the Lemon Peel? We had (yes had!) a Lemon Peel along with 2 x Black Percs and a Regal Tang and it was never a happy tank. The Lemon Peel ruled the tank even though it was added last, nipped at the black percs and tang. We lost a Black Perc a couple of weeks ago, and assume that the CUC cleared up the mess over night (it was there when when we went to bed and gone the next morning). We were lucky that our LFS took back the Lemon Peel and single black perc (as we wouldn't be able to introduce a new one) and we replaced them with 2 lovely Tangerine Clowns (not youngsters). Do you find your Lemon Peel agressive? Our tank seems a much calmer place now, the Regal Tang is out much more than it used to be. |

hi there
sorry to hear of you fish loss. its never nice all my fish get on unbeleivably well. i have a 200 litre fresh water african cichlid tank and this 175 litre marine/reef tank..there is no fighting at all between any species. 2 orange clowns went in first. then 2 yellow tail damsels. then lemonpeel angel. then regal tang and royal gramma. i was warned by lfs that the lemonpeel and tang would fight, but i was more than shocked to see them swimming side by side together eating the algae growth on the back of the tank there was about 1 weeks time difference between adding all the fish. lots of caves and crevises in the live rock hope you have better luck next time |

Hi All
Regards the skimmer I also don't get a great deal(1 egg cup per week). Tank has been set up since April now. I changed the air stone (bit of wood) couple of weeks back and this has made a big difference. I now get about 2 - 3 egg cups every 3 days. I find that I need to clean the skimmer cup out every 3 days as the green gunk builds up and stops the bubbles being pushed right up and out the top. I think the air pump is a bit underpowered but keep it clean and it seems to work. Apart from this the tank is great and set up working well. Must be OK as only had one loss in total, a turbo snail. Have one slight concern, something is nibbling at the corals overnight. Not major damage but can see bits missing and scars. Out with the red light in the wee hours but not seen anything yet. Mike |

Tony, Greggers,
Thanks for the suggestion with the air tube. It did help a bit but the fitler was stil too noisy for me and the SWMBO to be confortable with it. So, I have just changed the entire set up to a DELTEC 300 hang-on skimmer and a small internal mechanical filter with polypads. Lots of gunk coming out of the tank now, a lot more than previously! Cycling complete as well, two clowns and a red-spotted blenny are happy inhabitants together with a CuC! Cheers, Mattias |
