yup ok, I got that wrong then. Had more time to read over the threads now. Keep an eye on the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels in the hospital tank as he'll need the best quality water to aid in his recovery. It does sound like you are going to need a proper antibiotic for him and they're just not available over the counter in the UK. There are a few exceptions but you'll need lhg or your vet to advise in more detail. You'll also need 48 hours with carbon in the filter and 2 25% water changes before changing medication.

my vet has just phoned me!
he's looked at the photos, and taking into consideration the treatments i have already tried, he feels mr worm fish needs some anti biotics.
I have to ring him back tomorrow between 11:30-12 and he will let me know if he has been able to get any and what to do next.

*fingers crossed*

With regards to feeding him, can you ideot proof talk me through what to do please?

Well , if you can mix some food up and suck it into a turkey baster , hopefully you can place it near his mouth ...

The idea is that if your hand isn't in the tank he won't freak at the presence of the plastic turkey baster.

Good luck with him

H

hes had a tiny bit to eat, he let me feed him with minimal fuss, but i think it stressed him a little as he is now breathing faster than normal.

I have a feeling he wont make it through the night but i am hoping that he does

Good luck

You may find that he is just breathing a little faster than normal to help him swallow / digest the food , he could be forcing water through his gill and mouth to help it break down to be able to swallow it .... especially if he isn't actually swimming around , he will need to work a bit harder ..

Please let us know how you get on ....

Fingers crossed for Mr Worm Fish ....

It's with a heavy heart I have to tell you Mr Worm Fish didn't make it through the night
When I checked on him at 2:30am he was still with us, but 6:30am he had gone.

Thank you all so very much for all of your advice, help, and support over the last few days. I have learnt a lot, and will continue to come here to carry on learning and for advice, if that is ok.
