Re: Using salt in your aquarium
#26
Sorry I'm going to resurrect this old thread for a while,
I'm helping to treat a friends tank which currently contains 6 guppys, the tank is an aquastyle 620: 90l capacity. Params are Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate <20ppm
Just done a 25% water change.
All 6 guppys are showing various symptoms, spending most of their time at the surface of the tank with their mouths permanently open, stringy poo, tatty looking fins beginning to rot away with black and white edges, bloating and general lethargy.
One fish is particularly bad and seems to have some serious balance problems, lying on the bottom for long periods of time before trying to swim about in a topsy turvy style then giving up and sinking back to the bottom.
I have dosed with aquarium salt at 0.5g/l and was considering an isolated salt dip for the very poorly fish, is this a good idea? I'm not sure if its a good idea to return the fish from a strong saline environment into another (albeit much weaker) saline environment.
Does anybody have any experience with this?
Many thanks
