Green pond water #1
Green pond water, what can you do?

No one really wants to see a pond that is full of water that is distinctly green, so what can you do?

Why is it green?

The green colour is actually microscopic organisms called algae. These are very small and they are "free growing" unlike "string algae" which as the name suggests looks like string.

What can be done to remove it?

You have two options, the first is to use a UV and biological filter, you can find out more on the page here CLICK ME
(Providing the filter and UV are a suitable size, this will clear your green water)

The other method is "barley straw, barley straw extract, barley straw pills"......... You get the idea. It has yet to be proved how barley straw works, if at all.
The reason I say "if at all" is because barley straw is one of those things that works for some folk and not others.

Another "thing" (That may or may not work for you) is pond balance, some say if you have most of your pond shaded (Pond lilies are good for this) then you will not get green water because the plants take up most of the neutriants, and slow down photosynthesis.

Please be aware "string algae" is a rule unto itself, and is best removed with a stick, in a similar way candy floss is removed from the machine that makes it.

There is more to a pond, how it works how to look after it. Please look out for other articles for your guidance.
Good quality costs. Bear this in mind before you start.

Sorry if my reply is NOT want you want to hear, but what I have said is true.

We can only go by what you type.

A "thank you" costs nothing, but goes a long way.
