I got the aquamarine several months ago now and i am more than pleased with the tank itself, but i got so fedup with the noise of the filtration i stripped down the blue sump box, bought a tunze reefpack 200 (put the main filter in the tank & the protein skimmer in the sump) changed the powerhead and added a tunze 9025 pump to the tank. this was done about 10 days ago & although the filter relies on the biological side to be done through live rock, all seems well so far

milo909, i have a similar problem in that i have had 5 turbo snails die in 3 days for no apparent reason, like yours, they fall off the rock & wither away. my water readings are all fine, but i have introduced a pair of blue cheek gobies which have covered my LR with sand & i also have a quite a lot of thick wirey type algae, maybe they cannot feed because of this, also i now have alot of brown algae(similar to the type you get when the tank is cycling)

My set up is 2 1/2 months & I only get about a teaspoon full every cpl days if I lucky. I have 5 fish, 1 starfish, 6 turbo snails & 2 hermits, 2 cleaner shrimp & 1 peppermint shrimp.
My test results are fine, so not too worried at the mo

can anyone advise me?? my tank is cycling at mo, but i have had the same test results for the past 12 days (testing every 2 days) is this normal. also my LR which had loads of brown algae on it has over the past 3 days virtualy gone leaving almost bare rock with some strands of brown thick hairlike stuff. i also think i have what looks to be Aiptasia on one of the rocks.
my test results are consistently amoninia 0.25, nitrite 0.05, nitrate 20.
i did a 20% water change 6 days ago &no change in readings, filters seem to working ok & i have turned off te protein skimmer as its not doing anything yet

over the last 24 hours i have noticed that the brown algae (of which there was loads) has started to disappear, the tank is still cycling as the amonia/nitrate/nitrite levels are still high. is this normal or am i just worrying too much during the settling in period?

Hi, I too have the aquamarine 900 tank with the marisys 240 filtration system.
I have LR 15kg, live sand & on day 14 of set up.
There is tons of brown algae on LR & sand water results still too high to put anything in.
Hoping things settledown soon

Test results as of 15/9- ph 8.4/ ammonia 0.25/ nitrate 0.05/ nitrate 5.0.
done water change tonite (25ltr) will leave a couple days for things to settle then do tests again.
looking at previous posts regarding availabilty of ro water, i found my local aqualife centre to be very helpful. i paid £9.99 for 25 ltr container with water then £2.50 to refill (£5.00 with salt mix)

Day 13 since set up, plenty of brown algae on LR & live sand, seen couple of tiny crawley things on LR. lots of bubbles coming off LR & sand, but still nothing from protein skimmer, is this normal? looking to do 1st 20% water change at weekend...is this too early.
responses appreciated
