Just about given up on the plants now. None of them were growing, though i think my large plec sitting on them doesnt help. My son has most of them now in his tank and they have started growing. Even my java moss died, which is supposed to be the easiest plant of all to grow, and some say its a menace as it clogs filters and takes over? Not for me it doesnt, it just dies!
Still have the brown algae problem and i have to get a long handled paintbrush to clear it off every couple of weeks but it comes back almost straight away. |

Hi Chris. 90% of the time my Rummies are now together. The one who was bought on his own is different from the others ive noticed. It has a pale yellow and black tail as opposed to black and white. It spends some time alone, perhaps one of those different types you mentioned?

The algae is definitely brown algae and im having to scrub it off with a long handled paintbrush fortnightly. The plants ive currently got in there are supposed to be the easiest ones to grow but they are all brown and dying off. Plants in the past have also gone the same way. In 290 ltrs of water i have 96 watts of light for 7-8 hours a day. That light is a bit on the low side ive been told, but sufficient to grow the current plants java moss,Valis and dwarf sag. Ive added liquid fertiliser but this has had no effect on their growth.

Ive got, or rather did have 3 rummy Noses. Decided 3 werent enough so went to my LFS for more. Bought 7 from one tank, then noticed one other larger one in another tank on his own so got that one too. Added them to my tank and thought they would all swim/shoal together. However my original 3 all stick together as they did before, the 7 who were together...stay together, and the one who was on his own, does just that now! Is this normal or will they all become friends eventually?

Having no joy at all with plant growth in my tank. The only growth i have is brown algae which im just about to treat with some phosphate remover as recommended from my LFS. The plants ive chosen are supposed to be the easiest ones to grow. Is it that they simply arent growing OR my big common plec is simply wearing them away?

Im after some advice with my newly planted tank please. Ive got approx 290 ltrs of water in there with 2 x 48 watt T5 tubes and ive been advised to go for about 8 hours of tube light a day. Ive just put in there java moss at the front, Dwarf Sag in the middle and Vallisneria at the back. I did a bit of research and they seem to be lowish light easy to grow plants?
Im wanting to ask which liquid fertiliser to use. Id prefer one without nitrates as my tap water at source is already quite high in nitrates. Are all fertilisers the same? Is it safe to add these liquid fertilisers to my tank as im a bit concerned as ive only just got the tank running smooth after a very shaky start ![]() Thanks in anticipation peeps ![]() |

And im pretty sure and its just not my imagination....but the colours on my fish seem to be brighter. My Melon Barbs have pinked up nicely and are fun to watch chasing each other around. All fins are regrown and all the fish seem very happy

Ive cracked it. Over the last three weeks the water changes have been getting less frequent from every 2 days to 4 days before any noticable readings, and its now been a week and the water is just about ready for a normal water change. Many thanks to those who have helped me along this rocky road and steep learning curve. May the force be with you
