Thanks violet and mixtapes.

Sorry the pics didn't upload - will get hubby to look at the files (am not good with techy stuff - much prefer people and animals!).

I am pretty regular in cleaning and do the pipes and impellier once a month. now that I have taken the white pads out the water level has come down quite a bit.

I have ordered more pads which fit the tank (£17 for 20 white pads and 8 black off ebay) will see how they fair, but am inclined to only put the white pad under the trickle pipe and see how we go. I have had the tank for a long time and don't know why this has happened now. My gut feeling is the "cheaper" pads. Will see how we go.

Now, I need to move the tank which is on the aquaone cabinet - I suspect the carpet underneath is quite wet and need to clean it and dry it.

I don't want to stress the fish in any way - how would you advise I move the tank (how low can i take the water and should I leave the fish in to move it), - I need to lift the tank onto another unit to then move the cabinet to get to the carpet - hope this makes sense. Am happy to move the tank and leave it in a new position for a day or two whilst I make sure the carpet is sorted (need to also make sure the floorboards are dry - don't want them to rot!!!)

Thanks again.

Hello (happy new year to you all!) sorry not been on for a while - 3yr old and 8yr old keeping me busy and gone back to work full time!!! ARRRRGGGHHHH!! Rant Over.

Anyway, I have noticed that my tank has lost water and on further inspection have found that the overhead filtration system has over-filled and leaked down the back of the tank. I'm not 100% sure why this has happened but I have taken out one of the white filter pads (see picture) on the left and the level has reduced slightly. I am not due to change the top white pads for a bit, I have however deviated from the norm and bought the pads which are not necessarily for the tank and cut them to fit which is what the fish shop bloke said would be cheaper.

Anyone got any comments/suggestions on this. Do I need to have both the carbon pads and the white pads in both compartments and are these causing the overfill - do the generic pads need to be changed more frequently - any help appreciated.

Have attached two pics - one of the top of the tank (ie filtration system) and one of the tank - just because I love it so much (its my view of it every night from a comfy chair)!!

I like these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MARINA-AQUA ... 5634a29c95#ht_2300wt_1002

I have one at the moment but if you get the adapter you can have up to three plugged in. I have a blue (moonlight) one at the moment and my main lights come on early afternoon and then at about 10 in the evening the blue one comes on (all set up on timers), after a short while the main lights go out leaving the moonlight. I like the idea of the strips but the marina is easy to put anywhere in the tank and I can adjust is to suit, at the moment it is near the water line - half in and half out so that it gets the movement of the water. They are quite versatile as they arent fixed in a position and can be changed. I like the idea of having another right at the bottom placed so that it will shine through a shipwreck.

Hiya.

Just been checking on the little fishies and my tank temp has shot up with the weather being so warm. I turned down the heater last night. We are now at 29 degrees C. I have got two medium sandwich bags and filled them with ice cubes and one with an ice pack and popped them in the tank (suspended from where the lid closes).

The fishies had all gone to the bottom - but now they have perked up a bit. Gradually the temperature is coming down.

I will take the bags out later on.

I don't think it will do any harm??? Any thoughts???

All done - carbons are out and medication in.

Before I popped the medication in I tested the water again. Looks like the API Aqua Detox (nitrazorb) is working - tests are now:-

PH 8
Ammonia 0
nitrite 0
Nitrate 20ppm

I have checked the tapwater and the ph is 8 and nitrate is 10.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks Goldy - will crack on with the medication immediately.

I have noticed that there seems to be a lot of "gunk" on the second carbon cartridge so I have binned it and will put in new ones when the medication is done with - could this have increased the nitrates I wonder???

Am hoping (fingers, legs and everything else crossed)that we get back to "normal" very soon.

Hiya

I have an aquaone AR620 which has the overhead filter - it is pretty easy to remove the carbon - just need to know whether I should remove it (and the nitra zorb??) to treat the fin rot (I am aware that the carbon neutralises the medication)before getting the nitrates down (if the nitra zorb is removed the nitrates will remain high).

Its just a case of what to do first really - treat the poorly fishy Versus getting the nitrate down as it is quite high - but this might be to detriment of all the fishies.

Hiya everyone - I have noticed that (after returning from holiday) one of my guppies has fin rot. I have bought some Myxazin which treats fin rot.

The instructions say "switch off UV sterilisers ozonisers and remove zeolite & carbon before use" it also says to use the treatment for 5 days.

Also on returning from holiday the nitrates have soared. I used a pyramid feeding block whilst I was away (not sure if this has any bearing on things). Previously all my readings from testing were great.

I have done a big water change (40%) and put some API Aqua Detox (nitrazorb) in with the filter. I expect this will take a while to help reduce the nitrates.

Question is - do I get the nitrates down first, then remove the carbon filter and the nitrazorb in order to treat the fishy with fin rot. Or do I treat the fin rot first? Also - have never run the tank without the activated carbon sponges - is it ok to take it out for 5 days!!! And do you put the same one back in or new? feeling a bit unsure of myself at the moment - just want to know what is best course to take.

I only went away for 9 days so not sure whats happened.

Thanks.
