Re: Sick Fantail - Swimbladder or something else? #1
Hi again

Thank you for all the info. Please find attached a photo of my little fantail.

I am going to purchase a larger tank and new filter, and am ordering the water testing kit that you recommended.

Hi Suey

New to all this but answers to your questions as follows:-

The tank is approx 25 litres.

Charcole Filter

Tank has been set up for 3 1/2 years

I have not done any water tests as do not have this equipment.

The water is changed every one - two weeks, a full water change.

2 Fantails in tank, I black and the sick one..white with red head.

Ornaments are always in the tank only 2 at the moment but cleaned thoroughly on each water change.

I have added swimbladder treatment and aquarium salt as advised by pet shop.

The food I use is normally fish flakes and have been giving mashed up cooked peas since he has been sick, as read this was good for swimbladder on an internet site.

He has red streaks in his tail and has an orange colouring under his chin.

He has no fluff on him and his scales do not stick out like a pine cone.

I will upload a photo later

Thanks for your help.

Sick Fantail - Swimbladder or something else? #3
My fantail fish has been sick for around 2 months now. At first I thought he had swimbladder, as he has been floating on top of the tank and one side of his stomach appears to be swollen. I have tried everything to help him, including adding marine salts to the tank, treating him with Interpet Swimbladder Treatment and feeding him mashed up cooked peas, but nothing seems to help him. He does eat what he can in his position (which is quite difficult) and I have even been hand feeding him. Can anyone help or give any advice, as now I am wondering if maybe its something other than swimbladder?
