I haven't tried adding anything for a while but have a look at the info on posting pics and see if you can find where it's going amiss

http://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/modules/faq/index.php?cat_id=4#q11

If it still won't play ball let us know, maybe it's got a glitch that Admin needs to have a look at

I'm sure Brigitte asked about this a while ago, and FL replied with some helpful info but I can't find it! I'm thinking of buying frozen food online so I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for retailers, or any tips for making sure I don't give my goldies food poisoning

I think this calls for another FK outing! If we can't do AL shall we try and sort out somewhere else we can meet up? Bristol Zoo was talked about ages ago, anyone got any thoughts? Any other venues?

Hi, welcome to FK Sorry to hear you're having problems though. Are you able to test the water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? When the tank was empty, did you add a source of ammonia to keep the filter ticking over until you added the new fish? If not, I suspect your tank is no longer cycled and the fish are being exposed to ammonia and nitrite due to the filter bacteria having died off Long term your tank is not going to be a suitable home for three fancies but let's focus on getting them better before anything else

This article here will explain in more detail about the filter bacteria etc., and how to proceed if the filter has uncycled: http://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/articles ... hless-cycling-article.htm

If you take some water to your local shop and ask them to test it for make sure they write down actual results as 'fine' can be something of a grey area

The problem with the fin is more than likely down to poor water quality so i'd do a partial water change and keep doing them daily until you can get the water tested so we know what's going on in the water that should help dilute any pollutants. I wouldn't rush to add any meds until we know what the water is like

Do the white spots look like grains of salt sprinkled on him? If you could post a pic that would be great If it is whitest you may need to treat for that as it's a parasite and often manifests when fish are under the weather.

Hi, welcome to FK Depending on the pond set up they can sometimes accumulate enough bacteria to operate the nitrogen cycle without a filter. It's not entirely reliable though and depends on things like what's lurking at the bottom of the pond (some nice sludgy grot could actually be quite good in this instance) and amount of pond plants etc.

The fish do look rather fat, this could be a health problem, females with eggs (although not 100% likely if they're under the weather) or they are just fat. My singletail is very chunky when viewed from above. The white stuff looks and sounds like carp pox to me, have a read of this and see what you think, try google images for carp pox too:

http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ ... nts/Business/Carp_pox.pdf

If it is carp pox it's not fatal, it's just not very nice. Don't let them add any more fish to the pond and don't let them give the fish to anyone else (ideally) as they could infect others.

HTH
