readings are good, ammonia 0,nitrite 0,nitrate 5 and pH6.8. did do a 25% water change yesterday, all fish were still there last night though.ive only got 10 neons and 4 julii cories,oh and 4 assassin snails. neons have been doing really well, all bright, active bunnies! will check my filter tomorrow to see if it somehow got in lastnight

one of my tetras has dissapeared obviously im fearing the worse,i havnt seen him all day.i have a pretty heavily planted tank and i have to ask the question.....do dead fish float or sink?im wondering if its been tangled up somewhere? also,if i cant find it in the next day or 2,if i start getting a ammonia and nitrite spike,as ive just got a bottle of seachem prime(not yet used to condition water, been using a different conditioner,) would it be advisable to add straight to the tank to stop any spikes before i can locate the dead fish?

thanks. just to let you know.the guy in one of my local fish shops, has 6 male cockatoo cichlids, when i asked him are they also known as dwarf apaistogrammas,he said no? also said that males together would be fine! but did some research of my own,as well as your confirmation that this is not the case.gotta love advice from some fish shop owners!!! also had the cheek to try and sell me another fish tank!

in the future,im thinking about getting a pair of cockatoo cichlids.ive read the caresheets but was just wondering if anyone can give me any additional information about them? i gather you cant really put 2 males in together that they should be a mixed pair or 2 females to 1 male? would a male be ok on its own?

just wanted to know the correct procedure when using an air pump in a emergency.so far ive established,in an event of a powercut,i should remove the filter media into a bucket/container which is filled with water from the tank, correct? when using the air pump, should the air stone be beneath the media so the bubbles flow over it or can it just simply be in the same bucket/container? i should also add a little ammonia to keep the bacteria alive? and what about the fish in the tank? im guessing using seachem prime will help with the ammonia/nitrite levels while there is still no power? how long can the fish in the tank and the bacteria in the filter media survive for being kept in this state?

as seachem prime is highly concentrated,(5ml per 200L of water) does anyone have a 'trick' for small measurements? ie, for water changes if you only want enough for say 25L? would it be too dangerous if you were doing a water change for 25L out of a 100L tank and you put in 2.5ml for the whole 100L? if that makes sense?
