I done water reading about 3 days ago.
Nitrite = 0 Amonia = 0 Phosphate = 0.5 nitrate = 10ppm KH = ok 12dhk What would cause finrot, all my other fish are fine and healthy looking. Any ideas. cheers for your help. |

I thought it's Fin Rot or White Spot (Ich).
Fin Rot can be caused by poor water conditions or follows a damage or injury to where the Fin Rot is located. As your reading are fine, I'd suggest it was nipped at by a more aggressive fish or it's White Spot. If it was poor water conditions then a 25% water change would be in order. If it was nipped at it should clear up in a couple of days. Higher salt will promote healing. If it does not heal then I would assume it be more than likely White Spot. If it were White Spot, you'd be best to treat the Clownfish with Cuprazin. I've not as yet had either but this is what I've read and been told. Hopefully others can shed some light. Yeah it is more than likely caused by an injury. What is your SG? You can use melafix in marine tanks (I'm pretty sure, ask a marine advisor though!), that normally clears up finrot and fin injuries.
I don't really see any evidence of ich so you should be alright there. |

cheers,
My SG is 1.025. I use a refractometer to check the sg level. I sent flameangel a pm so I'll see what she says. Thanks for your help. |

HI sorry for the delay Maxie!!
I have had a look and it could be either a nip out of the fin from another fish, or a little bit of fungus/fin rot. You have had other problems in the tank recently and fungus or fin rot can be a secondary infection after something like whitespot. In fact I read that the lesions left by the whitespot are perfect sites for the secondary infection to develop. It may be worth adding one more dose of the treatment you decided to go for in the end as a safe bet. It may just clear up on its own after a few days as it is only a tiny amount and the fish is fine. The only concern would be if it starts to spread. I think it will go away with another dose. keep us informed and you did the right thing sending a PM as I get notified on my home email!! |
