Large typical south american cichlid primarily from ecuador, typical acara type, small mouth, chunky body,powerful build, blue shades dark spots, green and blue iridescent spots.Similar to the blue acara when young, but much larger when adult. Longer body proportions than A.pulcher.Often red/pink hues near gills. |

Ideally 75-100 gallons or more for pairs, single specimens could be held temporarily in 55 gallons, juveniles grow fast. less than 30-40 gallons would be a waste of time as upscaling would be needed very quickly.Caves, plants will probably be sacrificial |

Omnivore with carnivorous streak, cichlid and carnivore pellet base diet, with many frozen livefood treats , fish,shrimp, worms and shellfish pieces, may take blanched vegetables and flake grudgingly. |

Many similar species of which this is the largest, blue acaras, sapayo's, various flag cichlids and acara species similar as youngsters. |

Males larger slightly more impressive fins, females darker on average. Behaviour can be violently conclusive. |
| Breeding: |
Easy, same as blue acaras, prolific, usually nothing required beyond an opposite sex pair and a decent care regime. Keep temps at high end for fry survivability and egg maturation. |
