General Information: Can be identified by its deep golden colour and dark wavy markins along the dorsal surface. The ventral surface is yellow/silver culminating in a broad anal fin running much of the length of the fish. The anal fin can be elaborately speckled and can have a blueish tint to the edge.

Diet Requirements: Benefits from a wide variety of foods including bloodworm, brine shrimp and daphnia complimenting a base of good quality flake.
Compatibility: Semi-aggresive, Males can be highly territorial and aggresive to their own species and other similiar species (dwarf gourami etc)
Recommendations: Reccomended in a planted aquarium with plenty of hiding places for the females and other fish if kept in a community aquarium. Gourami are labyrinth fish and need acess to the water surface to breath.
Common Problems:
Similar Species: Dwarf gourami, three spot gourami, honey gourami etc
Sexing: Males are easily recognised by a longer trailing dorsal fin (more pointed), whereas female dorsal fin is much more rounded.
Breeding: Golden Gourami males prepare a bubble nest, they guide a female towards the nest and proceed to squeeze the eggs out of her. The males become highly protective and aggresive around the nest.
